Gerard has been working as a Software Developer for 25 years. After graduating from university with a Master in Mathematics, he started his career as a software developer in the research lab of Philips Electronics in the Netherlands. He quickly picked up the then new trend of Object Oriented programming languages which has been a major driver for his career since then. Apart from working for Philips for 13 years in different development groups and positions, he also has been teaching software development and development processes for 10 years at Bachelor degree level.

Gerard came to New Zealand in 2003 where he started up his own business and moved into the area of .NET and ASP.NET development. He started up the Hawke’s Bay .NET User Group in 2004 when Microsoft was looking for more groups to be set up outside of the main centres. He has successfully run this group ever since. In Feb 2011, his business, Birdwood Software Solutions, merged with Red Jungle Ltd and Long Cloud Technologies, forming a new, larger “Red Jungle Ltd”.

Gerard is driven by creating solutions for clients that just work for them and loves learning new things and using new technologies in the process. He is also a keen tramper and power walker in his spare time.

Matthew is one of the Principles, Chief Bottle washer and all around programming grunt of Red Jungle Ltd. He is also the Founder of Long Cloud Technologies, Inc. (U.S.). While he could say he wrote his first program in 1972 on the IBM remote terminal at Los Angeles Museum of Science and Industry during summer vacation (yes, during summer vacation he begged his parent's to let him take classes) He's only really been programming for fun and profit since 1993 (with an emphasis on Profit).

In 2005 He and his partner of 20 years relocated from Santa Barbara, CA to New Zealand, where he is currently working for Red Jungle contributing his system architectural expertise.

His first love was Visual Basic, but like most fickle lovers, he started playing around on the side with C# and now... well VB is still waiting for his phone calls.

He architected, project managed, and lead programmed, a shrink wrap solution for a client that is currently being used worldwide by NASA and Chevron as well as other fortune 500 companies to improve internal HR safety and product quality.

He is the caretaker for the world's most expensive dog; Xander (Who cost more then $600k, seeing as that was the price for the home with a yard that his partner made a condition of letting him get a dog).

Just for fun he plays with his dog, reads, plays XBox 360, reads, watches DVDs, reads, creates sample programs to relax, reads.
